JSTP offers a range of flexible career skills training program pathways designed to accommodate diverse learning needs and career aspirations. Whether you are seeking short-term intensive training or specialized skills development, JSTP has a program to suit your goals.
8-12 Week Intensive Programs
These focused programs provide in-depth training and accelerated pathways to employment in high-demand sectors. Each program is designed to be completed within 8 to 12 weeks, offering a fast track to a new career. Funding options are available for eligible candidates, making these programs accessible to those who qualify. Applicants must be 18 years or older to enroll in these programs.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA): Launch a rewarding healthcare career with our CNA program. CNAs are in high demand, providing essential patient care in various healthcare settings. Salary Range: $12 – $16 per hour. Learn more about enrollment.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B: Enter the transportation industry with a CDL Class B license. This program prepares you for a career as a professional driver, operating commercial vehicles. Salary Range: $14.55 – $15.30 per hour. Learn more about enrollment.

Note: CNA, CDL, and Customer Service programs require a clean background check. CNA, CDL, Culinary Arts, and Skilled Trades programs are full-time, Monday to Friday, during daytime hours. The Customer Service program is offered in the evenings, Monday to Thursday.
1-Day Certification Programs
For individuals seeking specific certifications to enhance their existing skills or quickly gain entry-level credentials, JSTP offers 1-day certification programs. These programs have no age requirement and the cost varies depending on the program.
- Food Handler Certification: In partnership with the Virginia Beach Restaurant Association, this certification validates your competency in food safety practices, meeting state-approved standards for food handling.
- Certified Professional Food Manager: Also in collaboration with the Virginia Beach Restaurant Association, this advanced certification demonstrates expertise in comprehensive food safety management, including foodborne illness prevention, education, pest control, and regulatory compliance.
- National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC): This foundational credential confirms your workplace employability skills in Applied Mathematics, Workplace Documents, and Graphic Literacy, skills essential for success in numerous job roles.

Program Details and Enrollment
JSTP’s innovative hybrid learning model combines the flexibility of virtual learning with hands-on, in-person training. Depending on the program, classes may be held virtually on select days and in-person on other days at Tidewater Community College’s Norfolk campus, the Skilled Trades Academy in Portsmouth, or at employer worksites. These 8-12 week programs are offered at no cost to eligible students, with tuition covered by third-party funding entities based on individual qualifications. All programs also provide continuing education units and college credit applicable towards relevant associate degrees.
