Meet Norviana: Embracing the Call to Care
What inspired your journey into nursing, and what aspects of this career path excite you most?
My journey to becoming a nurse has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Since high school, I’ve been part of Chamberlain University’s N2N program, which allowed me to complete prerequisite classes – a fantastic head start towards my nursing degree. During high school, I also attended technical school at the New Orleans Career Center, gaining certifications as a medical assistant and a Patient Care Technician (PCT). Navigating through the pandemic meant adapting to online classes, especially towards the end of my programs.
Discovering the Call to Care Scholars program at Chamberlain was a pivotal moment. It allowed me to fully concentrate on my studies and dedicate myself to becoming the best nurse I can be. I am incredibly excited about acquiring new skills and building connections within the healthcare community to truly understand the multifaceted world of nursing.

How do you hope to make a meaningful impact through your nursing career?
Looking back on my life and career journey, my greatest aspiration is to feel a deep sense of pride in all that I have accomplished. I want to be certain that I have positively influenced the lives of those around me. My primary goal is to impact the world by sharing my personality, empathy, and unwavering honesty in every patient interaction.
In what ways has being a Called-to-Care Scholar inspired or motivated you in your daily life and studies?
This incredible scholarship, the call to care program, has been a constant source of motivation for me to excel in my studies and future career. Knowing that LCMC Health believes in my potential and has invested in my future is incredibly empowering. The supportive environment and camaraderie among my fellow scholars are also invaluable; we are all dedicated to helping each other succeed.

Were there any significant obstacles you overcame to become a part of the Call to Care Program?
Initially, while starting school, I was working at University Medical Center. However, the demanding hours began to negatively impact my academic progress. Making the decision to temporarily leave my job to focus entirely on my studies was challenging but ultimately necessary for my future success in the call to care program and my nursing career.
How did you first learn about the Call to Care Scholars Program opportunity?
Hope Williams from Organizational Development at LCMC Health initially introduced me to the call to care program. She had known me since my internship with LCMC Health and YouthForce Nola. She presented this opportunity to my peers and me during one of my PCT classes. I immediately followed up with an email to Ms. Williams to gather more details and discussed it with my advisor at Chamberlain, and the rest is history!
Could you share a fun fact about yourself?
I am a huge fan of 90s music! Challenge me to name a song – I probably know it.
What is your “little something extra” that you bring to nursing?
A quirky little fact about me is that I am double-jointed in both of my arms! But beyond that, I believe my genuine passion for helping others and my resilient spirit are my “something extra” that I will bring to my nursing career, fueled by the call to care program.
This call to care program exemplifies LCMC Health’s dedication to fostering talent and ensuring a bright future for healthcare in our community. By supporting students like Norviana, LCMC Health is not only investing in individual careers but also strengthening the very foundation of patient care for years to come.
