Laura Bartlett, a 2023 graduate from Auburn’s School of Industrial and Graphic Design (SIGD), has made her mark in the automotive world by designing the vibrant new livery for the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering’s Indy race car. This exciting project highlights the practical application of skills learned in Car Graphic Design Programs and showcases Bartlett’s talent.
The Indy car, maintained and raced annually by Auburn engineering students in an international competition, receives a new graphic scheme approximately every 12 to 15 months. Stephanie Meyer, a graduate research assistant supporting the Indy car team, noted that Bartlett’s design is groundbreaking as the first graphic treatment created by an Auburn student. This initiative underscores the value of integrating design expertise from car graphic design programs directly into engineering projects.
Bartlett attributes her success in this unique endeavor to her comprehensive graphic design education at Auburn. “My education provided me with crucial software knowledge, allowing me to expand upon foundational skills and tackle complex design challenges beyond our standard curriculum,” she explained. This mastery of industry-standard car graphic design programs was instrumental in her ability to create such a compelling vehicle wrap. Furthermore, she emphasized, “The rigorous coursework and guidance from professors trained my eye for detail, ensuring every element of the design contributes to a cohesive and impactful final piece.” This meticulous approach is a hallmark of quality car graphic design programs.

For Bartlett, this project held personal significance. “Being an Auburn native, I felt a deep connection to this car, seeing it as a representation of both the university and the city,” Bartlett shared. “I approached the design process with utmost seriousness, conducting thorough research to develop concepts that would resonate with Auburn fans and convey a sense of fierce competitiveness.” This opportunity marks a significant milestone in her career: “Seeing my design come to life and be showcased nationally, and potentially globally if the races are successful, is incredibly rewarding. It’s the first time I’ve had a design realized on such a prominent platform.”
