Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) has officially announced the launch of its We CARE campaign program, a significant initiative designed to tackle the pressing issue of nurse shortages in Idaho and across the United States. Unveiled on October 17th at the annual President’s Dinner, the We CARE campaign program aims to raise $15 million. These funds will be crucial for the renovation of existing facilities and the construction of new ones, thereby enabling NNU to expand its esteemed nursing program. The goal is to train a larger number of nurses who are not only clinically proficient but also deeply committed to providing Christ-like compassionate care.
NNU’s nursing program has built a strong reputation for producing graduates who are exceptionally skilled and dedicated to patient-centered care. As NNU President Joel Pearsall highlights, “Our nursing grads not only deliver excellent clinical care, but they also demonstrate an enhanced ability to care for the whole person,” emphasizing the program’s holistic approach to healthcare education.
However, the program’s growth is currently hampered by spatial constraints and outdated facilities. This limitation results in numerous qualified applicants being turned away each year. Idaho is currently grappling with a severe nursing shortage, with approximately 2,000 nursing positions remaining unfilled each week. This stark reality underscores the urgent need for more well-educated and compassionate nurses. By expanding its program capacity through the We CARE campaign program, NNU aims to empower more students to answer their calling in nursing, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to a healthcare system in dire need of their expertise.
The quality of NNU’s nursing graduates is widely recognized and respected within the healthcare community. Hospital leaders throughout Idaho consistently commend NNU nurses for their outstanding clinical knowledge and their deeply compassionate approach to patient care. Travis Leach, COO of St. Luke’s Hospital at Home, notes, “NNU nursing graduates demonstrate superior clinical knowledge and critical thinking. This is vital in the ever-changing and complex healthcare landscape,” affirming the program’s effectiveness in preparing nurses for the challenges of modern healthcare.
Through the We CARE campaign program, NNU is making a significant commitment to increase the number of highly trained healthcare professionals entering the workforce. By providing enhanced facilities and resources, the university is dedicated to equipping more future healthcare leaders to meet the urgent needs of the healthcare system.
