The FMCP is a comprehensive two-year program meticulously designed to provide participants with robust on-the-job training through diverse rotational assignments and unique learning experiences. Individuals selected for the FMCP, known as Trainees and Associates, are officially part of the program but are based at various Navy and Marine Corps locations, or “Homeports,” across the United States. Upon successful completion of this intensive program, FMCP professionals are strategically placed into key positions within their Homeports, ready to contribute immediately. This program is crucial in developing highly skilled financial management experts who will meet the evolving demands of the DON FM Workforce. Recruitment focuses on key financial roles, specifically Financial Management Analysts (501) and Accountants (510), at the GS-7, GS-9, and GS-11 levels for Trainees, and GS-9, GS-11, and GS-12 levels for Associates, representing significant opportunities within a federal Career Program 11 context.

FM Trainee Program (FMTP): Your Entry into Federal Finance

The Financial Management Trainee Program (FMTP) is a dedicated 24-month path for individuals starting their careers in financial management. These “Trainees” are brought on board as entry-level (GS-7, GS-9, or GS-11) Financial Management Analysts and Accountants (job series 501 and 510).

FMTP Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration from an accredited institution, obtained within the last two years.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.95.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Willingness to sign a mobility agreement, indicating flexibility in assignment locations.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
  • Commitment to achieve DoD FM Certification Level I by program completion.

FM Associate Program (FMAP): Advance Your Financial Expertise

The Financial Management Associate Program (FMAP) is also a 24-month program, tailored for mid-level financial professionals, known as “Associates.” Associates are hired at the mid-level (GS-9, GS-11, or GS-12) as Financial Management Analysts and Accountants (job series 501 and 510).

FMAP Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration from an accredited university, earned within the two years prior to application.
  • GPA of 2.95 or higher.
  • Capacity to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Agreement to mobility requirements.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Required to earn DoD FM Certification Level I upon program completion.
