El Paso, Texas – An exciting initiative is underway at Fort Bliss, offering transitioning military personnel, veterans, and their spouses a pathway to thriving careers in the apartment industry. Through a collaboration between the Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation (TAAEF), the El Paso Apartment Association (EPAA), and Western Tech, the Career Skills Program (CSP) at Fort Bliss is providing free vocational training for high-demand maintenance roles. This program not only equips participants with valuable skills but also opens doors to positions boasting excellent benefits, including discounted rent and comprehensive insurance packages.
This unique Career Skills Program prioritizes transitioning active-duty service members, ensuring they have first access to these valuable training opportunities. Following this, any remaining places are made available to veterans and eligible military spouses, extending the program’s reach within the military community. Crucially, the Texas Apartment Association Education Foundation generously funds the entire training program, meaning there is absolutely no cost to participating students. “Our core mission is to strengthen the Texas multifamily housing sector by ensuring a consistent influx of skilled professionals,” emphasizes Becca Ramati, Vice-President of TAAEF. “Military veterans, in particular, bring a strong work ethic and a wealth of transferable skills that make them exceptionally well-suited for these roles.” Upon completion of the program, students will earn the highly respected Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAM-T) credential. This certification, accredited by the National Apartment Association, is widely recognized as the gold standard for maintenance professionals throughout the multifamily rental industry nationwide.
Scott Lynch, Executive Director of the EPAA, adds a personal perspective, “As a veteran myself, I am deeply committed to facilitating a smooth transition for soldiers into the private sector. The multifamily housing industry is currently facing a significant shortage of qualified maintenance professionals. I see this program as a perfect opportunity to both support our service members and address a critical need in the job market.”
