We are currently hiring for both full-time and part-time Patient Care Technician positions across various departments in our Newark and Wilmington hospitals. Recognizing the diverse needs of our team members and the demands of patient care, we offer a range of shifts, including:
- Evening/Midnight Shifts: Ideal for those seeking a later start or overnight work schedule.
- Day/Midnight Shifts: Providing flexibility and options to suit different lifestyles.
Both 8 and 12-hour shifts are available, primarily for Evening/Midnight and Day/Midnight rotations. We also value our team members who commit to weekend and holiday coverage, with a requirement for every other weekend and rotating holidays. To recognize the dedication of our evening, midnight, and weekend staff, we offer a competitive shift differential: 15% for Evening and Midnight shifts and 10% for weekend shifts. Typical shift hours include 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM, 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM, and 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM.
Your Role as a Patient Care Technician (PCT/CNA)
As a Patient Care Technician (PCT), also known as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), you will play a vital role in supporting our nursing staff and enhancing the comfort and well-being of our patients. Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will be instrumental in providing essential daily care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Monitoring Vital Signs: Accurately taking and recording vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate.
- Blood Glucose Monitoring: Performing Accu-checks to monitor patient blood glucose levels.
- Personal Care Assistance: Assisting patients with bathing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Mobility Support: Helping patients with mobilization and ambulation.
- Patient Safety: Contributing to a safe environment by adhering to patient safety goals and initiatives.
- Crisis Response: Responding to patient crisis situations within your scope of practice and promptly notifying the Registered Nurse.
- Point of Care Testing: Performing defined procedures using point-of-care instrumentation.
- Patient Observation: Providing 1:1 observation for patients experiencing psychiatric crises or those at risk for safety concerns, as directed by physician orders and nursing assessments.
- Effective Communication: Communicating with patients, colleagues, and physicians with courtesy and professionalism, both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications to Join Our Team
To be considered for a Patient Care Technician position at ChristianaCare, you should meet the following requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Experience:
- Previous patient care experience, including taking vital signs, is highly desirable.
- Nursing students who have successfully completed clinical hours are encouraged to apply.
- Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program is also advantageous and could be a stepping stone to further opportunities, potentially aligning with Christiana Care CNA program initiatives if available.
- Acute care experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Certification: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, Military Training Network, or National Safety Council is required.
