ChristianaCare offers a unique training environment that truly represents the best of both worlds in medical education. Our residents gain experience across two distinct hospital settings: Christiana Hospital, a comprehensive tertiary care center offering virtually every medical service imaginable, and Wilmington Hospital, a smaller, community-focused hospital where the Family Medicine residency program serves as the central academic hub. This contrast provides an unparalleled breadth and depth of clinical exposure.
Residents can choose their primary training base from three exceptional Family Medicine Center sites: The Family Medicine Center at Foulk Road, located in North Wilmington, serves a largely suburban, underserved population, offering unique insights into community health. The Family Medicine Center at Wilmington Primary Care, situated in downtown Wilmington, is at the heart of a vibrant urban environment with significant underserved care needs and a high-risk patient population. Additionally, we partner with the Family Medicine Center at Westside Family Healthcare, a JCAHO-accredited Federally Qualified Health Center, a long-standing and vital community partner dedicated to providing accessible, quality care.
Our program’s reach extends beyond these core sites, encompassing additional community training opportunities and proximity to a nationally renowned Children’s hospital. ChristianaCare Family Medicine is committed to evolving with community needs, delivering full-spectrum primary care within our practice, from comprehensive prenatal care to specialized addiction medicine and transgender healthcare services. We also offer enriching community engagement experiences and pathways to fellowships and certifications in areas like Global Health, broadening your impact and expertise.
