Exciting news for aspiring sonographers in the region! Collins Career Center and Ashland Community and Technical College (ACTC) have solidified their commitment to student success by establishing articulation agreements designed to streamline the educational journey for graduates of the Collins Career Center Sonography Program. This collaboration paves a clear and efficient pathway for Collins Career Center’s Cardiac Sonography program graduates to further their education and earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography: Cardiac Option at ACTC.
These newly formalized agreements recognize the rigorous training provided by the Collins Career Center Sonography Program, allowing graduates to seamlessly transfer their earned credits to ACTC. Specifically, credits earned in the Cardiac Sonography Program at Collins Career Center will directly contribute towards the AAS degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography with a Cardiac focus at ACTC. This strategic partnership eliminates potential roadblocks in higher education, ensuring students receive the maximum possible credit for their prior learning and can efficiently progress towards degree completion.
Dr. Janie Kitchen, ACTC Dean of Academic Affairs, highlighted the significance of these agreements, stating, “Cooperative articulation agreements such as these give students clearly defined opportunities to continue their education.” She further emphasized the broader impact of such collaborations, noting, “By partnering with other educational institutions, we are able to increase the educational and career options available to area residents.” This sentiment was echoed by Stephen K. Dodgion, Collins Career Center Superintendent, who expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with ACTC, recognizing their shared student-centered approach.
Terri Williamson, Medical Imaging Director at Collins Career Center, further elaborated on the advantages for students, stating, “The articulation agreement between Collins Career Center and ACTC is an excellent path for students to receive an Associate Degree in addition to a certificate of completion.” She underscored the long-term career benefits, adding, “This allows students the opportunity to continue their education beyond the primary paths of Radiography and Cardiac Sonography,” opening doors to advanced roles and specializations within the medical imaging field.
