Community-Focused Family Medicine Residency Program: Your Path to Impactful Healthcare

Welcome to an in-depth look at the Community Hospital East Family Medicine Residency program, a cornerstone of Community Health Network. For aspiring family physicians passionate about making a real difference, our program offers a unique and enriching training experience. We are dedicated to cultivating caring and skilled family doctors ready to excel in diverse healthcare environments, with a deep understanding of the crucial role of community health care programs in family medicine residency.

Our residency distinguishes itself with a thoughtfully designed longitudinal curriculum. We recognize that adult learners thrive when revisiting key concepts, allowing for deeper understanding and retention. At the heart of our program is extensive experience in family medicine clinics, including significant time at the Jane Pauley Community Health Center (CHC). This robust clinical foundation is complemented by the flexibility for residents to personalize their educational journey. Whether your aspirations lead to full-spectrum family medicine, specialized fellowships, hospital-based practice, or outpatient care, our program is tailored to equip you for success. For those with specific interests, we provide enriched training pathways and rotations in areas such as obstetrics, addiction medicine, sports medicine, and hospital medicine.

Training within a primary care-centric community health network offers an unparalleled environment for mastering the essential skills of family medicine. We place a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary teamwork, fostering collaborative skills crucial in today’s healthcare landscape. Furthermore, our program integrates process improvement methodologies into resident education, preparing graduates to be proactive agents of positive change in their future practices. Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our continuous accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). We take immense pride in our graduates’ consistent success on the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) certification exams, boasting a 100% board pass rate for many years. This consistent achievement is a testament to the unwavering support Community Health Network has provided to family medicine education for over four decades.

A defining aspect of our Community Health Care Program Family Medicine Residency is our deep commitment to serving vulnerable populations. We are privileged to care for a diverse patient population, including many underserved individuals, within our clinics and hospital. This commitment led to the establishment of our Underserved Care Track in 2016, further solidifying our dedication to addressing health equity. Our care settings are multilingual and multicultural, reflecting the rich diversity of Indianapolis. Community Hospital East, a vital pillar in its neighborhood, expanded its facilities with a new patient care tower in 2019, enhancing our capacity to serve the community. Across all our clinical sites, learning is enriched through close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including social workers, psychologists, pharmacists, nurses, and care managers.

While our website offers comprehensive information, the true essence of our program lies in our people. Our residents, faculty, and staff form the heart of our training environment. We have cultivated a friendly, supportive, and team-based approach to both patient care and learning. Diversity and inclusion are core values that we actively champion.

If you are driven to become a well-rounded, exceptional family physician capable of providing care in any setting, and if you seek a residency family medicine program that values teamwork, wellness, and a joyful learning environment, we encourage you to consider joining our community. We wish you the very best as you complete your medical school journey!
