  • Determine if our clinic is the right fit for you and your family’s needs. We believe in a collaborative approach and want to ensure you feel comfortable and confident in our services.
  • Share the reasons that bring you to therapy. This allows us to understand your current challenges and goals for therapy.
  • Discuss your needs and expectations for therapy. We want to tailor our approach to best support your individual circumstances.
  • Provide relevant personal and family history information. This background helps us gain a holistic understanding of your situation.
  • Ask any questions you may have about the therapy process at the ECU Family Care Clinic. We are committed to transparency and open communication.

Our Clinic Director carefully reviews all intake information to ensure that the experience level of our clinicians aligns with the specific needs of each client or family. Why Choose ECU Family Care Clinic? The Benefits of a Training Clinic

The ECU Family Care Clinic operates as a training facility, which offers unique advantages to our clients. When you choose our clinic, you benefit from:

Expert Supervision by Leading Faculty

Our therapists are students in their final stages of their master’s or PhD programs in Family Therapy. They are closely supervised by our esteemed faculty members, who are not only experienced clinicians but also AAMFT (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy) Approved Supervisors. This prestigious designation signifies the highest level of supervision training in the mental health field and requires years of dedicated experience to achieve.

This rigorous supervision model ensures that you receive the highest quality of care. Our faculty supervisors are actively engaged in the latest research and advancements in family therapy, bringing cutting-edge knowledge and techniques to your therapy experience. They are dedicated to providing our students, and therefore our clients, with the absolute best therapeutic approaches.

Innovative “Team Therapy” Option

For clients seeking an even more collaborative and enriching experience, the ECU Family Care Clinic offers an optional “Team Therapy” approach. This unique opportunity allows you to have your therapy sessions benefit from the real-time input of the supervising faculty member and a team of fellow therapists.

While the idea of “Team Therapy” may initially feel a bit unusual, clients who have participated in this model often report it as a highly beneficial and even enjoyable experience. The diverse perspectives and collaborative insights offered by the team can lead to deeper understanding and more effective therapeutic outcomes. Participation in “Team Therapy” is entirely voluntary and offered as an opt-in choice to enhance your therapy journey.

Relational Approach and Support System Integration

At the ECU Family Care Clinic, we deeply value the power of relationships in overall well-being and happiness. We understand that your connections with family, partners, friends, and community members significantly impact your mental and emotional health.

Your therapist at the ECU Family Care Clinic may explore the possibility of incorporating members of your support system into your therapy process. This could involve inviting a family member, partner, child, friend, or other important person to participate as a consultant or as an ongoing part of your therapy sessions. These decisions are always made collaboratively, ensuring you are an active participant in shaping your therapy.

We also welcome the involvement of concerned family members and community professionals, such as physicians, school administrators, teachers, counselors, and clergy, with the client’s explicit consent. We believe in a holistic, integrated healthcare model and are proud to be home to the nationally recognized Medical Family Therapy PhD program. This approach allows us to effectively coordinate treatment with your broader healthcare providers, educators, and support networks, ensuring comprehensive and cohesive care.

Affordable Session Fees and Payment Options

The ECU Family Care Clinic is committed to making therapy accessible and affordable for our community. We offer a Standardized Income-based Fee structure for households earning under $100,000 annually, making our session fees significantly lower than our standard per-session rate of $100.

During the intake process, you will be asked to provide information about your annual or monthly household income and proof of income (such as a pay stub). This information will be used to determine your personalized session fee based on our Standardized Income-based Fee chart for 2021-2022. We understand that financial situations can change, and you are welcome to update your income information with your therapist at any time, which will result in a readjustment of your session fee. Our fees are based on gross household income and the number of individuals in the household.

Session fees are required to be paid prior to each session and can be conveniently paid through our secure online payment portal: ECU Family Therapy Clinic UStore.

Please note that as a training clinic, our students are not yet licensed and therefore unable to bill insurance directly. However, our payment portal will automatically email you a receipt for each payment, which you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. Furthermore, our clinic is recognized as a healthcare entity within HSA (Health Savings Account) systems, allowing you to use your HSA card for session payments, which will be categorized as a healthcare expense.

We do not offer refunds for overpayments or missed sessions. Any payments made for missed sessions will be applied to your next scheduled appointment.
