The Division of Infectious Diseases at East Carolina University (ECU) through Ecu Specialty Care is committed to a three-fold mission: to EDUCATE future healthcare professionals, to SERVE the community of eastern North Carolina with exceptional patient care, and to advance medical knowledge through quality RESEARCH. Our dedication is evident in our comprehensive approach to infectious disease management and our commitment to the health of our community.
At ECU Specialty Care, we understand the complexities of infectious diseases and offer a wide spectrum of services designed to meet the diverse needs of our patients. Our clinic provides:
- Comprehensive Laboratory Services: Supporting accurate and timely diagnoses.
- Expert Consultative Care: Addressing a broad range of infectious disease challenges.
- Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program: Delivering ambulatory care and vital support services for individuals living with HIV.
- Support Groups: Fostering community and peer support for patients.
- Access to Research and Clinical Trials: Offering cutting-edge treatment options and contributing to medical advancements.
Our team of experienced physicians and physician extenders are the cornerstone of ECU Specialty Care. We currently manage the care of over 1500 patients at our Greenville clinic, making us one of the largest HIV clinics in the southeastern United States. Additionally, we extend our reach to approximately 300 patients in surrounding county clinics, ensuring vital care is accessible throughout eastern North Carolina. Faculty members are actively engaged in research to understand and address health disparities, including the disproportionately high HIV infection rates within African-American communities. Furthermore, our participation in numerous clinical trials provides access to the latest HIV therapies, offering hope and treatment to individuals who may otherwise face barriers.
Education is deeply ingrained in the ethos of ECU Specialty Care. We are dedicated to shaping the next generation of medical professionals through our involvement in the education of medical students at the Brody School of Medicine and residents at ECU Health Medical Center. Our faculty and staff are also proactive in community outreach, providing crucial education regarding HIV infection to high-risk populations. Since 2002, our Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program has been training specialists in the field. We have further expanded our educational offerings with a combined fellowship program in Infectious Diseases and Critical Care Medicine, recognizing the growing need for clinicians with expertise in both areas to combat current and future infectious disease threats.
