The FY25 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Rebate Program is currently open, but funding is fully allocated for both Residential and Commercial EVSE applications as of January 27, 2025. While the Residential and Commercial EVSE Rebate programs are fully subscribed, Commercial projects may still qualify for the Community Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Grant Program. Please visit the webpage for more information. Applicants who submitted applications from January 28, 2025 onwards will receive an email with further details regarding the funding status.
The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is actively processing Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment rebate applications to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles throughout Maryland. Applications are reviewed and processed in the order they are received, and email inquiries are addressed in the order of receipt.
We appreciate your patience as MEA addresses the high level of interest in the EVSE rebate program. For any questions, please contact the EVSE inbox directly at [email protected].
Please be aware that MEA cannot guarantee funding availability, budget amounts, eligible technologies, rebate structures, or incentive amounts at this time. Application submission confirms receipt, and applications will be kept on file. Eligible applications will be processed in the order received if additional funding becomes available.
By submitting an application, applicants agree to MEA’s data collection protocols, detailed in the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) provided below.

Program Objectives of the Electric Car Program
The primary goal of the EVSE Rebate Program, a key component of the broader Electric Car Program in Maryland, is to ease the financial burden associated with purchasing and installing EV charging stations. This initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, contributing to Maryland’s goals for EV deployment and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction.
Electric Car Program Description: EVSE Rebate Program Details
The Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Rebate Program offers financial assistance to cover eligible expenses related to acquiring and installing qualified EV supply equipment, commonly known as charging stations. This program is a crucial part of Maryland’s electric car program, incentivizing the build-out of necessary charging infrastructure.
Program Budget for Electric Car Charging Infrastructure
The total budget allocated for the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) rebate program is $2.5 million.
- Initially, $1.5 million was designated for residential EVSE applications, and $1.0 million for commercial EVSE applications.
- After April 1, 2025, these initial allocation limits will be lifted. Any FY25 applications not yet processed due to the initial funding limits being reached will then be processed, depending on the overall FY25 budget availability for the entire EVSE Rebate Program. This ensures broader access to the electric car program incentives as the fiscal year progresses.
The rebate amounts for the FY25 Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) are detailed in the Program Documents section below:
Rebate Category | Percentage of Total Eligible Costs | Maximum Rebate Amount per Charger |
---|---|---|
Residential | 50% | Up to $700 |
Commercial | 50% | Up to $5,000 |
To ensure that EVSE incentives contribute to the long-term development of EVSE infrastructure, Level 1 EVSE purchases made on or after October 1, 2023, are no longer eligible for rebates under this electric car program initiative.
While Multi-Unit Developments (MUDs) are eligible for the FY25 EVSE Rebate Program, MEA is exploring opportunities to provide additional support for EVSE installations in MUDs located within low-to-moderate-income, overburdened, and/or underserved communities. Further updates will be provided as they become available, highlighting the commitment of the electric car program to equitable access.
Program Type: First-Come, First-Served Rebate
The EVSE Rebate Program operates as a non-competitive, first-come, first-served rebate program until all program funds are exhausted. This structure ensures efficient distribution of funds within Maryland’s electric car program framework.
Application Submission Guidance for the Electric Car Program Rebate
Please refer to the “How to Apply” section within the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), located under Program Documents below, for detailed application submission instructions. Applicants must carefully review the FOA prior to applying to understand project requirements, eligibility restrictions, the application process, and program terms and conditions. Thorough preparation is essential for successful participation in this electric car program initiative.
Program Documents for EVSE Rebate Program
NOTE: As of August 15, 2024, applicants are required to use the most current versions of the FY25 EVSE Rebate Program Residential or Commercial Application Forms. MEA will not accept outdated application forms on or after October 1, 2024. Applicants whose applications are rejected for using outdated forms are welcome to re-apply using the current application form, ensuring alignment with the electric car program guidelines.

Note: Maryland’s Excise Tax Credit for Plug-In Electric Vehicles is managed by Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA), not the Maryland Energy Administration. The MVA handles vehicle titling. Details on the MVA’s EV tax credit program are available on their webpage here. Inquiries can be directed to MVA via Contact MVA. This is a separate incentive program from the EVSE Rebate Program but contributes to the overall electric car program ecosystem in Maryland.
