McLaren Health Care/Flint/MSU Program Internal Medicine Residency: Application Guide

The McLaren Port Huron Internal Medicine Residency Program is dedicated to training the next generation of skilled and compassionate physicians. For those interested in joining our esteemed program, we participate in the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Please note that for the 2025 MATCH season, applications are exclusively accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We do not consider paper applications.

Application Method

To apply to the McLaren Port Huron Internal Medicine Residency Program, all candidates must utilize the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This is the sole method of application for all positions except for those starting on July 1, 2025. For positions commencing on July 1, 2025, please express your interest by sending an email to [email protected] .

Required Documents for Application

A complete application requires several essential documents to be submitted via ERAS. These include:

  • A Completed ERAS Application: Ensure all sections are filled accurately and within the specified deadlines.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): A detailed CV outlining your academic and professional experiences.
  • Medical School Letters of Recommendation: Submit a minimum of three letters of recommendation from medical school faculty who can attest to your clinical abilities and potential.
  • USMLE and/or COMLEX Scores: Applicants must have passing scores for USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 2 CS, or COMLEX Step 1 and Step 2 prior to medical school graduation.
  • ECFMG Certificate (if applicable): If you are a graduate of a medical school outside of the United States and its territories, an ECFMG certificate is mandatory at the commencement of your Residency.

Selection Process

The Resident Selection Committee thoroughly reviews each application. Candidates who meet or exceed our program’s criteria will be considered for an interview. Selection is based on a holistic review of an applicant’s preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic achievements, communication skills, and personal attributes such as motivation and integrity. To be eligible for an interview, all applicants must be U.S. citizens or possess legal residency status in the U.S. (Green Card or refugee status). Interviews

Interviews for the McLaren Port Huron Internal Medicine Residency Program will be conducted virtually. Applicants who successfully pass the initial screening process and meet our selection criteria will be contacted to schedule an interview. Communication regarding interviews will be exclusively through Thalamus or email. Interviews are typically scheduled during November, December, and January. During the virtual interview process, applicants will have the valuable opportunity to engage with our Program Director and esteemed faculty members to learn more about the program and ask any questions they may have.
